The Fujimori Rooftop House  (click for more more detail)

Located at the edge of the Takao mountain range on the old Silk Highway, atop Fujimori hill on the outskirts of Tokyo, this property is an excellent location to relax between or plan explorations.  It features a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji and sweeping views of the Kanto Mountains, Mt Takao and range to the west, and even downtown Tokyo to the east.

From this location easy day trips can be made to such spiritual places as Meiji Shrine, Koonji a 600 year old Buddist monastery (5 minute walk), and Mt. Takao.  It also serves as an excellent central location from which to make slightly longer excursions to Kyoto, Nikko,  and Kiyosato in the Yatsugatake Highlands.

The Koshimizu House  (click for more more detail)

The Koshimizu house is the family home of Yoshihiko Koshimizu, a long time friend of your ApartJapan hosts. Located in the small rice farming village of Nagazawa, the home is over 200 years old and served during the Tokangawa Period, as a place of rest for the Shogunate and Samurai prior to making the long trek through the mountain pass to Nagano.  Mr. Koshimizu traces his roots over 51 generations living on the land on which the home stands. All generations are buried in the family cemetery located on the small mountain behind the house.  It is an ideal location in which to meditate and reflect. A very short distance from Kiyosato further up the mountain pass, one can enjoy a variety of mountain paths such as Meshi Mori, KEEP Lodge and Mount Yatsugatake.

The Koshimizu house is available on a limited basis for overnight retreats. It offers a very rare reflective meditative opportunity and experience which even few Japanese have had.
