The house has a large comfortable outside area where morning tea and breakfast or a dinner with others (below) can be enjoyed. It is also an excellent space to experience a late afternoon or evening quiet time. There are often a wonderful breeze.

The Tatami room is a quiet meditative space and also a space to enjoy a Japanese style meal.

The Fujimori Rooftop House

Located at the edge of the Takao mountain range on the old Silk Highway, atop Fujimori hill on the outskirts of Tokyo, this property is an excellent location to relax between or within which to plan explorations.

It features a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji and sweeping views of the Kanto Mountain Range, Mt. Takao, the sacred mountains of Tama and even downtown Tokyo to the east.

From this location easy day trips can be made to such spiritual places as Meiji Shrine, Koonji a 600 year old Buddist monestary (5 minute walk), and Mt. Takao.  Kiyosato, where the Brotherhood of St. Andrews built a retreat lodge, Seisen Ryo, in the 1920's as well as the Yatsugatake Highlands are a short and very breathtaking train ride away.

The rooftop house also serves as a excellent relaxing central location from which to make slightly longer excursions to Kyoto or the Nikko area.

The house is appointed simply in traditional zen style and provides a separated space that includes a tatami room and bedroom. The large living room and kitchen area, both of which overlook the mountains to the south and the village of Madorimachi, provides an exceptional relaxing space in which to meet , commune or share a meal. The tatami room is served by a traditional sliding paper door, has a small meditative alter and provides an excellent private meditative space.  The guest bedroom is located on the complete opposite side of the hosts space and thus allows maximum quiet privacy when desired.

The home also has a deep bathtub which often is a wonderful way to quiet ones soul and reconnect.  In the center of downtown Hachioji, a 15 minute walk away, there is a "relax spa" that is often helpful.

Across the street is Fujimori park which has a small shrine. It is a lovely place to walk or relax and in season to enjoy the mystery and magic of Sakura,

The village of Takao and the Takao Shrine (高尾神社; Takao-jinja) is a lovely 5 minute train ride and less then 15 minutes from the house. The ride goes past the gateway road to Tama Goryō  and the Shingon Buddist temple in which the Taishō and Shōwa emperors are buried.

Namiko and Rob welcome you to this home and unique place apart.

The Fujimori Rooftop House is a quiet oasis within the mass and frenzy of the worlds second largest economy and metropolis of Tokyo and the Kanto plain. It is their hope it will provide you, as it has provided them, a space in which to rest,  to slow one's pace and not just see, but experience the rich depth of Japanese custom and faith, to awaken to the depth of spirit, soul and connectedness to each other, the earth and spirit.

The hope is also that the rooftop house will serve as a place within  which a greater awakening and understanding to all that concerns us as a world community can occur.

Mt. Fuji greets you against the early morning

sun. In this area of Japan, the sun rises very early.

Fuji-san is considered by the Japanese as a mountain of great spiritual significance.

The sun setting behind Fuji-san so many times is a quieting reminder of God's creation and our connectedness.
